Hi and Welcome to our Billet Strap Tying Page! Here we will explain the proper way to tie a billet strap on a Western Saddle. For first time saddle owners, all those straps can be intimidating! Here explained with photos, we will explain each step to you. It's best if you read all of the description and see the photos before trying it yourself. Once you learn this, it's hard to forget. You can do your cross straps from either direction, but I was taught this way, so I'm just passing it on. Some people do not know and use the buckle on the cinch, but I prefer the strength of using a saddle knot. |

Step 1: First take your "Near" (Near- left side of horse, as if you were riding him!)billet strap (Long strap on left side of saddle) and place this DOWN through the Cinch ring or Cinch buckle. |

Step 2: Next you are going to take the billet strap and go DOWN through the top ring on the saddle. You need to make sure all straps are flat and not twisted. Do NOT pull tight at this stage as it makes it hard to go back through the rings. |

Step 3: Once again go DOWN through the cinch ring or cinch buckle. (You are just making a series of loops, each loop goes on top of the loop before.) |

Step 4: Now you are ready to go back down behind on the saddle ring. Remember to keep billet straps on top of one another and make sure they are not twisted. |

Step 5: Now instead of going back down through the cinch ring and bring it back up, you are going to Pull it off to the side. |

Step 6: Now bring the billet strap around the front of the straps to the other side. |

Step 7: Next you are going to "tuck" it around back of the saddle ring. |

Step 8: With the strap in the back of the saddle ring, you are going to take it through the saddle ring and bring it to the front. "Tucking" it down under the cross strap. Making a Men's Tie Knot more or less! |

Step 9: Finished Knot! Now you can pull the under straps to tighten everything up. Working your way to the outer most straps and tightening up the "knot" part. |
| Please seek a assistance if this confuses you. This is an important safety step and every rider should check their billet straps and off billet straps (right side straps) for frays and wear. They are inexpensive to replace and are a VITAL importance to a safe saddle! |
